Why am I doing this? Five years ago, one of my cousins died from ALS. He was like a big brother to me, and I miss him every day. From the day of his diagnosis, I became involved with ALS Association fundraising events. The first year I arranged for my family to raise money through a walk-a-thon. Our team was small, but mighty. The following year we went from a team of walkers to a team of riders in the Napa Valley Ride for the Cure, and we've done the ride almost every year.
Currently, there is no cure for ALS. It’s a disease that slowly robs the victim of their motor skills. Simple things like walking, eating, talking, and eventually even breathing become impossible. Yet, all the while the victim’s mind is as sharp as ever. It’s like being trapped in your body with no way to communicate with your loved ones. The average life-span of a victim after diagnosis is 1-5 years. Like I said, heinous.
But, there is hope. Recent research has led to promising breakthroughs. Please help me and my colleagues support the ALSA in their search for a cure. Go to the Blue Book Cover Brigade’s site and pick up a new book, or twelve, to read. Or, you can go directly to our Team Page and make a tax deductible donation.
Anyway you can help will be much appreciated. Thank you, and never give up because there are blue skies ahead!
XOXO
