No, I'm taking about book pirates. Thieves who steal copyrighted intellectual property and give it away or sell it without having done a lick of work, then have the gall to call authors "greedy" for expecting to be paid for what they have created.
***This is where my gloves come off, so brace yourselves for some unfiltered honesty from yours truly.***
But, could their illicit careers of terrorizing hard working authors be coming to an end? I, for one, am hopeful that it is, because a new leader has risen up from our ranks. A leader who got so fed up and said, "No more!" A leader who has filed a lawsuit with the potential to take down the sorry ass of one of the most arrogant, self-serving book pirates around. (Think I'm exaggerating? Call the rat on his airplane sometime and ask him yourself. How many "greedy" authors do you think own airplanes? Hell, most of us can barely afford gas for our cars.)
We call this new hero in our midst: John Van Stry
And guess what the pirate-worm is doing? Sniveling to all the low-life thieves who have taken advantage of his illegally obtained loot and asking them to donate to his defense fund. And some of them have! Amazing how they "can't afford to pay for book", but now they suddenly have money to help fiance a thief's day in court. Please tell me I'm not the only on who sees irony of this.
We call this slime bucket: Nothing. His name is Nothing. (If you want it, read the lawsuit. This guy is dead to me.)
I have few word for all the authors, readers, and book pirates out there.
AUTHORS
John Van Stry's lawsuit is a glimmer of hope for all of us. I and many others have donated to help him out with legal expenses. I am not asking you to do the same, however, for more information on the lawsuit, or to donate, click here. And, oh my gosh, share this link with everyone! By making book pirating a difficult, unprofitable proposition, their ranks will decrease.
READERS
If you purchase books through legal avenues, THANK YOU and BLESS YOU! Very few authors write to get rich, and fewer still make more than a living wage. I myself barely break even, and everything I make on one book goes into editing, covering, formatting, and marketing the next book. Personally, I write because I love touching peoples' hearts and souls with my words. I love to give them hope. If you'd also like to help John Van Stry take down one of the guys stealing from your favorite authors, click here.
To those of you who download our hard work for free, please rethink your actions because receiving stolen property is a crime. If you want to read free books...go to your local library! If your library doesn't have the books you want, ask the librarian to order them. It's. That. Easy! And, do you really want to go down with your buddy, Mr. Nothing?
PIRATES
We're coming for your sorry asses. That is all.
