Let me preface this blog by saying that my newsletter, Lea's Letters from Space, is absolutely the best way to keep up on the authorly happenings in my life.
Why?
Because any social media platform from Bluesky to X can shutdown my account with them for any reason they deem appropriate. When that happens (and it does happen!), anyone who follows me on that particular platform will have no way of knowing what happened other than I suddenly disappeared. This has happened to author friends of mine on Facebook--because: Facebook. <insert eyeball roll here> Very few of them have been successful in getting their accounts reinstated. Most of them can be found only on X, TikTok, Bluesky, etc., now.
What makes a newsletter different is that an author owns their subscriber list. That means if I suddenly disappear from Facebook, for example, my newsletter subscribers will still get updates and exclusive content from me once a month.
